Fenéstration is a body of work created by artist, Samantha Hookway, that engages forms of histories–art, craft, American and world– using the window motif. Hookway’s believes that the bombardment of glowing screens of contemporary culture functions similarly to a window. It is this interstitial space that drives the artist, as well as an obvious love for Alberti’s metaphor for a picture (a window to the world in his de Pictura). Hookway has referred to her Fenéstration as “sculptural hybrids between a stained glass window and a painting.”
