A call to artists and arts groups:

Better signs of life than for-rent signs. South Street developers Howard Lander and Steve Giannascoli are donating at least a half-dozen vacant storefronts to arts groups to use as gallery space and "creative incubators" - until the economy improves.

The plan, hatched by merchants Julia Zagar (Eyes Gallery) and Bill Curry (Copabanana), have groups paying utilities but no rent for two months, with a month-to-month renewal option, says Curry.

Jonathan Dickstein, an incoming grad student in the ceramics department is having an opening the last Friday of this month at RED HOOK COFFEE & TEA.

So, if you're in the city, you should go, especially for the opening event, four legged friends are permitted. He mentions, "whatever you have planned, i guarantee that this will be at least partially as fun."

FluxTask

Many of us attended the Oliver Herring show at the FLUXSpace last December 15, 2007.

Well it looks like they want to do something like it again September 6, 2008. For the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, they set up an entirely new website for fluxtask with all of the information about whats happening. They need lots of money and help. While I don't think any of us can help with the money part there are quite a few volunteer positions, photographers, videographers, press, face painters, etc. And they have a poster competition! Just go to the website!!

The last movie that we watched was really good, Wings of Desire is romantic and depressing, its set in Berlin, features a beautiful trapeze artist, and you all should have been there! Here's to hoping everyone has seen this movie already.

Art All Around, the international art competition to design the painting of 16 Sprague Energy oil tanks in So. Portland, Maine, USA.

The Maine Center for Creativity's Art All Around™ international design competition has been launched. We are especially interested in your participation. I will be posting the other movies a day before they are being played so that you can come see some free movies if you are on campus. Class is Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-9, a movie is not played every class, but just so you know when to be prepared for a free movie.
