THE WHAT? A major art show featuring artists working within a 250-mile radius of Richmond. Why that area? Because it takes in some of the Mid-Atlantic and some of the Southeast, and juror Marlene Rothacker knows there are a lot of good artists out there, and she wants to find out who you are.
THE WHO? Fine artists working in two or three dimensions, or in digital and video mediums. The only limitation is that they must work (create) within a 250-mile radius of Richmond. This includes Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Washington DC, Baltimore, and everywhere in between. If you aren't sure if you fall within the target area, check the map on the front of the prospectus to find out.
THE WHEN? The show will run June 26 through August 23, 2009. Postmark and online deadline for submissions is 11:59PM Friday, May 15, 2009.
THE WHERE? The show will occupy all 3,000 square feet of artspace gallery in Plant Zero, a renovated industrial building in Richmond's Manchester Arts District.
PRIZES. PRIZES UP TO $1000 and a solo exhibition in artspace's Helena Davis Gallery will be awarded at the discretion of Ms. Rothacker.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS. Up to 3 digital images on CD at 72 ppi and 800 pixels for the longest dimension, or up to 3 minutes for moving images on DVD. Label digital images and DVD with last name, first initial, and entry number (e.g. SmithJ1). Video entries require own equipment. Installation work is limited to a height of 10', where main entrance to artspace is 8'X8'.
Mail or hand-deliver images on CD, video DVD, completed entry form, entry fee, and SASE (for return of CD or DVD and notification) to artspace, Zero E. 4th Street, Richmond, Virginia 23224, postmarked by Friday, May 15, 2009. If no SASE provided, notification will be sent by e-mail.
ONLINE SUBMISSIONS: In the body of an e-mail, include your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address. In this e-mail provide information for the images you wish to submit. Attach images of the work corresponding to the information provided and send to firstname.lastname@example.org by 11:59 PM Friday, May 15, 2009. Notice of acceptance will be e-mailed.
ENTRY FEE: All submissions require payment of a non-refundable entry fee of $25 for three (3) entries, which is accepted via PayPal or personal check or money order mailed to the gallery by the postmark deadline. Additional entries may be submitted at $5.00 (US) each, for up to five (5) total entries.
ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION: Notification of acceptance will be mailed or e-mailed on or around Friday, May 29, 2009. Artist bios, resumes, and statements will be requested upon acceptance to show.
ACCEPTED WORK will be received from Monday, June 15, through Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 12-4PM.
INSTALLATION of work will take place from Monday, June 22, through Thursday, June 25, 2009.
